Also known as the festival of lights, "DIWALI" is the most widely celebrated Hindu festival. It marks the New Year of the Hindu calendar and is a celebration of the victory of "good" over "evil". On this day, people from all walks of life, be it rich or poor come together to celebrate this festival in good spirit and harmony. People wear new traditional clothes and exchange sweets with each other. Earthen lamps called "Diyas" are lit everywhere at night to get rid of darkness as this festival falls on the day with a moonless night. Children burst firecrackers on the night of DIWALI. The Hindu Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi is worshipped on this day in the hope that people won't face any financial difficulties in the coming New Year.
